1. How long does it take to get into Dubai by car, bus or train?

The Airport Road (D89) leads directly into Dubai’s city centre, a 10-minute drive. Bus stations are located opposite both terminals. These buses serve all parts of the Dubai area, and depart every 10 minutes between 6am and 10pm. A taxi stand outside the arrivals hall is open 24 hours a day, and limousine service is available as well.

Dubai International is served by the Dubai Metro, which will operate two stations through the airport. The Red Line (Dubai Metro) has a station at Terminal 3, and another station is currently being constructed at Terminal 1.

2. Can I park my car in one of the car parks?

Both short-term (Car Park A) and long-term (Car Park B) parking facilities are available.

3. What items cannot be taken on board a flight?

Your airline will be happy to provide you with any information you need. Information can also be found along with your ticket.

4. Where can I deposit my luggage for safekeeping?

There is a ‘Left Luggage’ facility, at Terminal 1, once you have exited the baggage hall, near the taxi line up.

5. Can liquids be carried in hand baggage on flights?

Do not carry any liquids, gels, creams, pastes or aerosols in your hand luggage unless essential for your journey. If you do need to carry these items make sure they are in containers of less than 100 ml volume and packed in a clear plastic bag (travelling with liquids).

6. Why can’t I carry diving lamps in my check-in baggage?

Diving lamps are a potential hazard because they can switch on accidentally through shocks or vibrations during transportation. The heat from the light source can cause a fire in the cargo hold of the aircraft.

The transport of the diving lamps is permitted only in hand baggage. During flight, the light source or energy source must be removed. For diving lamps equipped with power switch arrestor, it is sufficient to activate this arrestor.

7. Who is responsible for security checks at Dubai International?

Security checks are carried out at the airport by Dubai Police. Pre-screening takes place in all terminals at the entrance of the airport.

8. Can I stay overnight at the Dubai International?

Yes, provided that you have a valid plane ticket with you. For long-haul passengers or business travellers on tight schedules, rest and relaxation are luxuries that are now available at Dubai International Hotel across two locations at the airport (Link to site)

9. Is smoking generally banned at Dubai International?

Smoking is only permitted outdoors due to local regulations. However, there are smoking rooms located in the departures area.

10. Should passengers expect long waiting times at the airport?

Airlines, the ground handling service provider Dnata and Dubai Airports cooperate closely to ensure waiting times are kept to a minimum at Dubai International. Typically the process through the airport is fast and smooth. However, on occasion, due to high levels of seasonal passenger traffic, waiting times may be extended.

11. Is any liability assumed by airlines or Dubai Airports for items that must be left behind at the security screening checkpoint?

Dubai Airports or airlines cannot assume liability for articles left behind. For items carried in check-in baggage, the usual liability terms apply. Check with your airline for further information on checked baggage rules and regulations.

12. Why do liquids have to be transported in plastic bags from now on?

This process was selected as a practical way to maintain high levels of security and limit the number of containers carried on board. This solution made it possible to avoid a total ban on liquids.

13. What are the hours for Dubai Duty Free?

14. Can I leave the airport when transiting through Dubai?

This depends on the nationality stated in your passport and on the length of your stop in Dubai. Most travellers require visas to enter Dubai. However, regulations frequently change, so if you wish to leave the airport while in transit through Dubai, please check your visa requirements with your local UAE embassy before you start your journey. Travellers of certain nationalities may obtain visas at the airport on arrival.

15. Can my child travel alone?

For the most part yes, although rules and services may vary depending on the airline you fly. Emirates, for example, has two categories of service, with separate conditions and requirements, for passengers between the ages of 5 and 16 who are travelling unaccompanied by an adult. For children between the ages of 5 and 11, classified as Unaccompanied Minors, Emirates offers separate check-in facilities and dedicated ground staff to help on departure and arrival.

Emirates also provides special attention for those children between the ages of 12 and 15 – classified as Young Passengers.

17. Can my pet travel in the cabin with me?

Rules and regulations vary by airline and by country. For example, with Emirates Airline, live animals are not permitted in the cabin of any Emirates aircraft. They can, however, travel in the aircraft, subject to certain conditions and extra charges. Pets and other animals can only be accepted for travel on Emirates flights provided that the IATA Live Animals Regulations are met in their entirety, as well as any additional government regulations that apply in the place of origin, transit and destination. The container in which each animal travels must be of adequate size, suitable design, and sufficient strength to prevent escape and/or injury during flight.
