DUBAI LOGISTICS BODIES STAND UNITED FOR FIATA WORLD CONGRESS 2007

8 October 2007

The 2007 FIATA World Congress will be held from October 18-22 at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai, under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Dubai is a rapidly growing city that sits at the crossroads of world trade and transport, offering Congress delegates ease in air connectivity, a multitude of business opportunities and myriad leisure and social activities. As such, FIATA expects a turnout of 1,000 delegates this year from over 95 countries.
The FIATA World Congress 2007 will not be held in unfamiliar grounds. In fact, this is the second time Dubai is hosting the FIATA World Congress—a first in the history of FIATA to revisit a host country in a short span of eight years. Now, the delegates will have the chance to assess Dubai’s progress since the the country first hosted the Congress in 1999, in terms of transport logistics, which is in line with the theme, “Economic Mobilization Through Transport Logistics.” In this regard, Dubai’s logistics and transportation organizations, which are some of the most dynamic from the emerging markets, have united in their efforts to make the FIATA World Congress 2007 the most successful thus far.

Some of the biggest names in the industry that are committed in supporting the Congress are Dubai’s Department of Civil Aviation, DNATA, Dubai Commerce & Tourism Marketing, DP World, Dubai Logistics City, Dubai Cargo Village, Emirates Airlines and Federal Express. Other supporters include, Swift Freight International, STALCO International Shipping Bureau, International Transport Journal, Air Cargo Middle East and India Magazine, WCA Family of Logistics Networks, and many other organizations that form the membership of NAFL (National Association of Freight and Logistics), which is the host organization for the Congress.

The FIATA World Congress 2007 Dubai Host Committee, which was created under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum to make sure that the delegates will benefit from the Congress, is led by its Chairman Mr. Ali Khalfan Saleh Al Jallaf, and backed by members, who are some of the industry’s most trusted names, such as Mr. Issa Baluch (Past President of FIATA), Capt. Mansoor Y A Ghafoor, Mr. Ashok Thomas, Col. Salah Saif Saeed Bin Suloom, Mr. Amir Ali, Mr. Awadh Al Seghayer, Mr. Prakash Nair, and Mr. Atiq Nasib Juma.

One of the main highlights of the Congress will be the discussion on freight security, which is one of major concerns today in the industry worldwide, entitled “100 Percent Transportation Security—Myth or Reality?” Speakers will include, Richard Di Nucci, U.S. Customs Service; Roeland Van Bockel, EG Supply Chain Security; Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Dubai DP World; and J.C. Delen, Chairman FIATA WG Security.

In addition to numerous business opportunities, delegates will also have an opportunity to see the makings of new airport facility in DLC.

Founded in 1926, FIATA (International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations) is the global voice of freight logistics, FIATA aims to facilitate and accelerate the growth of the industry. It holds consultative status with UNCTAD, ECOSOC, UNECE, and UNESCAP, among other international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Established in 1992, the National Association of Freight and Logistics (NAFL) is FIATA’s sole national association member in the GCC region. NAFL brings together the major players of the UAE’s freight forwarding, logistics and shipping industry in order to promote the freight forwarding industry and raise its standards in the UAE.
