FACILITIES Print  Forward to a Friend

DCG is a one-stop-shop for all your cargo needs. This was the original founding concept that made it unique. Apart from offering superlative levels of service and exceptional facilities, DCG offers sophisticated and specialized storage facilities for everything from live animals to perishables to explosives. This is in addition to highly sophisticated screening facilities, 24-hour security in the form of a strong police presence, X-ray screening and full close circuit camera coverage. When the Mega Terminal goes online, Dubai will indisputably become the region's foremost cargo hub.

Within the village are two separate buildings with warehousing and office space for cargo agents and freight forwarders, a space designed to ensure quick turnaround of shipments and allow close interaction among authorities, operators and current prospective customers. In addition, the cargo building houses representatives of Dubai Civil Aviation, DNATA, Customs, Airlines, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Health Department, Dubai Municipality and Police/Security Personnel.

Storage

The cargo building has a ground area of 24,985 sq.m., handling area of 8,300 sq.m., space of 7,800 sq m and storage capacity of 7,420 tonnes. The building leads to an apron where cargo aircrafts can load and unload up to four B747 freighters, or a combination of two B747s and three narrow-bodied freighters at a time.

The warehouses within a bonded area consist of a storage capacity for 308 ULD's as well as racks for small, medium and large warehouse pallets. A special section is dedicated to:
  • Valuables
  • Explosives & dangerous goods
  • Radioactive materials
  • Live animals and human remains
  • Air-conditioned warehouse and
  • Cold storage for perishables
  • A vault for extremely valuable goods

Infrastructure

The key to Dubai Cargo gateway's success lies in its perfect coordination between its employees and systems. A semi-automated system is used for assigning and locating cargo. Computers are used to designate storage areas and track freight throughout the system.

Warehouse employees deliver items to and from the racks using elevating transfer vehicles (ETVs), transfer vehicles (TVs), forklifts and conveyor belts. Cargo storage racks with facility for storing include small warehouse pallets with 902 positions, regular 1,698 positions, large 1,126 positions and mini shipments 760 (single positions), as well as 18 positions for storing perishables.

The cargo warehouse has a total of 56 truck docks for import, export & perishable cargo, and 7 docks dedicated to sea-air traffic.
