Dubai Cargo gateway has created an award for individuals who have contributed to the protection of the environment and who have moved the process of sustainable development. The award covers efforts of individuals who have worked on a volunteer basis and individuals, whose scientific, technological and academic research have left their mark on the field of environmental science. Such efforts and contributions should be rewarded and disseminated to benefit society as a whole.
Environmental awareness is not only a cultural and economic requirement; it is also a religious duty. Religion is the primary factor shaping positive trends and values, and reinforcing the role of conscience and self-discipline. Protecting the environment and its economic resources is an essential social responsibility without which no economic or human activity can take place.
Man is the most basic element of the eco-system, not separate from it; he influences it and is influenced by it. He is influenced by the living and non-living components of the environment, be it fauna, flora, winds, climate, topography, rain, or soil. He can positively influence them with his care, concern and protection, as well as with the establishment of environmental organizations whose job it is to plan environmental protection strategies and supervise their execution. Sadly, man can also negatively influence his environment by abusing and wasting these resources.
It is, therefore, imperative for man – the fulcrum of the eco-system – to spread environmental awareness by encouraging positive attitudes and personal values. Thus, every individual becomes involved in the process of finding solutions to environmental problems. However, if there is no existent set of environmental goals and values governing the manner with which individuals deal with the environment, there would be no individual efforts; the consequences of which are disastrous.
